MSD Digital 6 problems?

I replaced my 6-T/ soft touch and two step with a new digital 6 box on my Formula. Made the switch for the retard option since I'm putting the jug on the car. Car ran great and has been running great for years with the old setup. I installed the digital 6...tested everything and headed to the dyno to tune in the nitrous. Well I was going to make some motor pulls to worm everything up and get a baseline for the nitrous pulls but the car wouldn't go past 6200 rpms(went to 7200 before). Thinking it was maybe a power problem we tested all the connections and I'm getting good power. The light stays solid red on the box. We put a charger on the battery just in case and made another pull..same thing. Any idea what it could be or did I get a bad box?

I don't have a digital 6 (just 6al) but I am pretty sure those digital 6 boxes have a built-in rev limiter. The default setting for the rev limiter might be set at 6200 RPM. Check your instruction manual to see how to set the rev limiter higher. Also, MSD has links to their manuals in .pdf format on their site. Hopefully everything is OK and that is all the problem is. Look on the side of the box with all of the diles. Check the one for "rev limit" and turn it as high as you want it. Fuel tables run out at 7000. Make sure the pink wire gets 12volts so it can pull timing. I have mine hooked to the throttle switch.

The light will stay red as long as there is power. The only time it doesn't is when you're cranking it over (flashes each time it gets a pulse from the opti) and if there's a malfunction (will flash once per second).

Definitely check the built-in limiter. The dials should be on the end of the box by the tach input.
