MSD Cap/rotor question

alright, ordered the msd cap/rotor kit back in december, and am just now getting around to installing it (ive been busy)
got the old cap and rotor off today, and went to install the new one, and realized something

the new cap/rotor has a spot for a "clean-air" hose, and it came with the hose. Is this pretty much what makes vented opti's different from non-vented ones? Also, where does this hose plug into, it shows one spot going into the intake elbow, and then one going to a vacuum line, but i dont remember where the vacuum line is (cars at work on the lift, im at home)

Yes, i checked the part number, and it is for the 94 LT1.
Not sure why everyone makes such a big deal about swappin these things out, im finding it to be quite easy.

Also, since i have the AIR pump off, and its not hooked up to my headers, or plugged in, it wont hurt anything just not putting it back on, correct?

Its a little more involved then you may think, you not only need the vacuum line, which came with the MSD kit, but you are also going to have to swap the opti electrical harness, the timing cover, the camshaft as a longer dowel pin and hole in the center is needed, as well as a modified cam gear or a 95 or later timing chain set. The best time to do the conversion would be if you are going to swap in an aftermarket cam.

so, should i just find a way to plug that vacuum line up so i dont have to screw with it? Or since it came with it, should i go ahead and do everything for the "clean air"? I know the factory one didnt have it, so im wondering if its even worth it since I will install a whole new opti when i do my cam and my EWP

You won't need to do any of the above. I've got the same msd opti for my 94 motor and it basically gives you the benefits of having a vented opti with out actually converting to the 95 and later setup. You just have to drill a hole in your intake elbow (it tells you the size to drill in the instructions) and the line to the intake manifold has a t in it. You put it on where the egr solenoid vaccuum line goes and then put the egr vaccum line back on to the t that is provided with the kit. 2000gtp was describing what you need to do if you're actually using a 95-97 setup.

If all you bought was a cap and rotor, you will be missing the second connection on the body of the 94 unvented unit. That makes the swap to "vented" a bit more difficult, since you need to connect the air supply from the intake elbow to the connection on the stock unvented Opti body, which you are missing.

You can't just hook up the vacuum side from the cap to the intake manifold, or you risk distorting the cap, and pulling dirt and moisture in through the seals in the Opti.

okay, it has the one to the intake manifold, but not the one for the elbow. Should i find a way to plug to the one to manifold?

I made a mistake, I thought you had the msd opti, not just the cap and rotor. Injuneer is correct- you won't be able to use the vent line off of the cap because you don't have the msd opti which has another vent line coming off of it. My bad- I should have read more carefully.
