I think its sort of interesting that the two people who are citing frequent/multiple Opti failures are both running forced induction. Could there be a connection? Overpressured case? Worth thinking about.

Hopefully they piped the purge supply from before the blower and kept the check valve and "dirt" filter in the line to the intake. ISTR the "dirt" filter is quite restrictive too.

Of course I had to search to verify "mzgp5x" has a forced induction engine, since he doesn't have a "signature". That really makes it difficult for anyone to validate his experience vs. theirs, when they don't know that he has something that is probably quite a bit different than theirs???

I would think forced induction would contribute to different valve pressures, so maybe different cam/valve harmonics. To add to your comment I used to complain of excessive "static" in the RPM graph which I now ignore and also contribute that to the bad opti's since loose screws contribute to loose signal.

Good comment, it's worth looking into, if possible.

I'm not thinking in terms of cam harmonics.... I'm thinking in terms of pressure control on the venting system.

My buddy went with the Accel Distributor when he rebuilt his trans am hes pushing around four hundred horses and drives it real hard and hes had it for two years. He says its alot better than stock. I figured i was going to buy that summitt accel 300+ ignition system and give that a try im all stock in that department.

Ahh, I have a check valve from procharger that installs on the vacuum side the stops flow when under boost. Besides I could see if they were arcing out or becoming contaminated but the screw/rotor thing seems like a vibration type problem.

My Opti intake air is about 6" down from the air filter and I still have the restrictor and procharger supplied check valve in the vacuum side.

All of the opti's I had fail were very clean inside, the original opti had what looked like a water stain at the inside bottom which would explain why when I drove thru deep water it would start running crappy until I dried it out idling for 15mins (let the water evap) but i never had a failure with that opti (125K miles). I actually removed the restrictor on that setup and I never had another water problem that lasted more than a minute.
