well we got the motor in the SS motor came out of a 93 vette with 3300 miles on it, well my dad did the rings and such for me (i work a jacked up schedual) well one of the cylinders is injecting oil into the combustion chamber causing it to smaoke we assume, after talking with my dad we think that when he did the rings he didnt stagger the rings and oil was working its way past the rings. so the motor is commin back out. but on a good note the headers are in, custom Y which runs allthe way to my rear axel then into my stock TOTL muffler (gotta keep it stock lookin ) was nice to hear it run though!! sounds awsome with the TOTL muffler and the longtubes!!

 

Just curious as to why you had to re-ring a 3300 mile motor.

no clue, all i know is that my dad was all gunhoe about replacing the rings and such.

 

yeah, I would have left it alone. but are you sure its the rings causing the burning oil? what about a valve seal? if you replaced the valve seals also Id check that first. and, did he use a ball hone to give the cyl. walls a fresh hone to break into? if not, thats prolly the problem. you could always try to let the rings seat in before yanking the motor. since the walls werent honed, it'll take extra time to seat them intot he wall.
and, if he did hone the walls, he prolly didnt get it good and the same thing will result. rings not sealing to the walls yet. how many miles have you put on the car? you should take it on a long highway trip to see if they'll seat. varying the rpm/speed as you go.

i guess they started it it was smoking and the shut it off and said yup were yanking the motor out, but ill give the recomendation to my brother to tell my dad because if i suggest it or say it my dad wont listen.

 

well every eng will smoke a LITTLE, but if its smokin alot, couldnt hurt to give it a shot. long as you make sure to keep adding oil. plus, you need to make SURE you know what cyl.s are burning the oil so you know exactly where needs attention when/if you do pull the eng. again. the plugs will tell you what cyl.s cause the burned oil will collect on the electrode.

 

shop said it burned approx 5 quarts of oil in 3 min!! they also added they couldnt see the buisiness nextdoor (about 50 feet away) it was smoking so bad!!

You sure the rings are even in it? 5 qts and 3 min is insane even if its just a bit exaderated.... 1 cyl with the rings stagered wrong wont do that... good luck with the rest of the project.
