**LE1 head/cam setup coming before summer ends along with some other good stuff**

Did you change your mind?

It depends on what you mean by "biggest gain". If you are looking at area under the torque curve (in the rev range you will run the engine) which should give you best acceleration, the optimum cam won't be very "big".

It might be fairly close to what you had in mind in your signature.

Re: Most powerful cam?

you can jam a 24X/24X 110 LSA cam in there and it would be big, but stock heads are going to choke it off so bad, you'll never see the power.

With stock heads, I wouldn't really go anything above a 22X/22X duration and a 112LSA at the most. Anything bigger is going to be useless unless you have the airflow from the heads to back it up.

Re: Most powerful cam?

People have cc306's and gm 847's in motors with stock heads. They usually lay down 340-355 rwhp and similar torque numbers, depending on the trans and the rest of the setup. Those are the biggest cams as far a duration and lift go that I have read about on this site. As mentioned before the stock heads are going to choke the cams i talked about. Get the le1 setup you have in your sig. or get the le1 heads and a le2 cam. The potential for the motor lies the heads. You can only throw in so much cam. good luck

Re: Most powerful cam?

oo ok i thought the heads would cut alot of the power from the cam but what about getting different heads and leaving the same cam.. would that choke it more considering the heads wouldnt be getting the most amount of air and fuel

That would yield less power then just stuffing one of the cams mentioned (cc306 or gm847) into a stock headed car. Better flowing heads require larger cams to take advantage of their increased flow. There would be gains with the better flowing heads but not significant.

Re: Most powerful cam?

Big heads--smaller cam for the same HP level.
If ya got GOOD heads ya don't need a big stupid cam to make HP, but a stock cam won't get ya there.

Re: Most powerful cam?

heads and cams go together as a package. You really can't build power with one and not the other.
