Stock stall is a BIG problem, you should have done a good stall converter first. I say this as someone else who also did a cam first and gained basically nothing till I gave it proper supporting mods.

Re: Most Power Put Down by LT1 Hotcam?

I would do at least 2800 in a quality 9.5" converter. I know that sounds like a lot but it will drive just fine. Ideas about vast amounts of heat buildup are grossly outdated. Most of the stock cam bolton cars go 32-3600 even.

Personally I use Edge they are a little more budget friendly, if you have the coin I would look at Yank, Vigilante is certainly good too.

Back when I was putting 20K miles a year on my car I had a ZZ4 cam208/221 .474/.510 112, with 2800 stall Edge and 3.42 gears some cheap 28" slicks and in very good weather it ran 13.2 at I think about 103mph Been a LONG time since that setup was in the car.

i will make this my next upgrade. i have a good feeling that my tune is the biggest problem that i have though. i think something has got my timing full time retard. of course im not a genious either. but i know what my ls1 ram air felt like with just a couple boltons and this car isnt lifting the nose like it did.

Was the knock sensor programmed out?

If it is functional in the pcm reconnect it and see what happens.

The tune could be complete crap I know I had some REALLY bad tunes from Bryan.
By knock sensor unplugged do you literally mean just unplugged or was it tuned out as well? I suspect leaving it disconnected but turned on in the programming could cause a full time timing retard.
.
As Dwayne has already pointed out, if all you did was unhook the knock sensor, and did not have it programmed out, you are seeing up to 15* of knock retard. The exact number is variable, based on engine operating conditions, but unless you had it tuned out, or unless the maximum allowable knock retard has been reduced significantly in the program, it is hurting performance.

You seem to be avoiding answering his question.

Re: Most Power Put Down by LT1 Hotcam?

I don't think that it was tuned out. We just unhooked the knock sensor the day before yesterday. Ran the same as it did hooked up the day before. I haven't got to talk with them at pcmforless yet though.I do know that my engine is a little more clattery with this new cam and rockers. So it could very well be the knock sensor I hope

Always good to have all the information.

You may have a case where with the knock sensor installed and connected, it is picking up false knock from the rockers = retarded timing, and with the knock sensor unhooked the PCM is retarding the timing due to the resulting code. That would explain why is doesn't run strong either way.

I ran 14.3 with my stock m6 at almost 98. I was on street tires, granny shifting. I absolutely had no mods unless you count a muffler. So you have something definitely wrong.

So next step will be contacting pcmforless and working out all the loose kinks. Thanks for your guys help. I will post the results ASAP.

Re: Most Power Put Down by LT1 Hotcam?

At this point I see no reason to contact pcmforless.
Resolve the knock sensor thing and give it a stall and see what it does then.

Re: Most Power Put Down by LT1 Hotcam?

Do you know if the knock sensor was already deleted in the tune? Did you check that box when you filled out the tuner's questionairre for the tune? Might want to check with the tuner.

Re: Most Power Put Down by LT1 Hotcam?

I don't recall seeing the knock sensor box on the questionaire. But I also didn't see the Maf descreening box. I caught it when I saw the report. So I'm going to say that it wasn't deleted on tune
