most ci out of .030

Is 396 the largest a LT1 can be stroked while not going any more than .030 over?

Thanks

You can get 409ci with a 4" stroke/.030" over on an LT1. That is the max ci. without going to a custom (read: expensive) crank.

well not only that but i doubt that a 409 will be streetable because of the stroke and driveability...

the bigger the motor the more driveable itll be for a given cam. making it live with that compression height and rod/stroke ratio however, is another story.

This has been rehashed here many times. Yes, as Jason indicated a 409 can be built. And as he also stated, even larger small blocks can be built. But most people think that the largest practical stroke, in terms of cost effectiveness, is a 3.875" (396). A 4" crank in an LT1 is definitely not "plug-n-play". Such a motor will make a lot of torque, for sure. But hp and revs will be limited by the available valve size (determined by the bore) and mechanical considerations. You'd be farther ahead to put the money in to the heads (pun intended), induction, valvetrain, and exhaust systems and build a 383 or 396.
