OK, Ok, so im having problems with something as simple as a CAI...but i just got my car and im new to working on it. First off does anyone know of any detailed instructions on how to intall it? The ones it came with are garbage.

My main problem is the black filter plate...i cant get it to fit and i dont know which way to turn it to make it fit. Oh, and do i really need to drill holes or will it work with out them? I havent gotten to the rest of it yet, because i put the stock one back on cause i had to go to work.

Any and all help appreciated.....thanks

you have to drill the holes.

I installed mine per instructions, the filter plate should resemble the area your installing it in.

Don't feel bad, it took me more time to install mine than I would have guessed too. I had to trim outer part the filter plate to make it fit the inner fenderwell better. I did screw mine down, but I don't beleive it would move at all w/o the screws. Its a tight fit, but what isn't when dealing with these cars.

I banged on my plate for freakin' forever trying to get it to fit and never did get it right. I ended up tossing the plate to the side and clamped the filter straight to the plastic piece. It's been fine for over 15K miles that way, although I do want to get some weatherstrip or something to put over the edge of the hole that the filter hangs into to prevent it from rubbing or tearing the filter (hasn't happened yet though).

And yes, those instructions did suck...I don't know how people get that thing to fit correctly.

I can't understand why all the problems. My plate fit with room to spare. Are you putting the long metal extension on the plate, as opposed to the short one, into the hole?

Ditto.... if you put the plate in the right direction, is just sits over the opening, fits loose, and needs the screws to hold it tight/help seal out the hot air above from the filter below. If it won't fit, you probably have it upside down or backwards.

As I recall... it was 8 years ago... the longer part goes "down" for the filter to connect to, and the shorter part faces "up" for the silicon connector that holds the air tube onto it.

I only cut about an 1/8 inch off the front edge, it wasn't manditory, but it sure fit better after the fact. I think its pretty obvious how that plate is intended to mount to the inner fender, etc.

I just let the plate lay in the engine bay. It doesn't really move around at all, it covers over the hole perfectly. What I did was, put the plate in, connected the filter from the bottom, and then connected to top plastic part last. It helps to disconnect the fuse box from its mounts and twist it up and out of the way.
