More Opticrap problems

Well, my Opti lasted 30 minutes until I had to take the thermostat housing off. What a ****ty *** design.

Anyhow, I went to get a replacement cap (AC Delco part# 327A) and it doesn't have the spacer that goes between the opti and the distributor cap or either of the seals/ gaskets. How the hell do I get these two seals!? I can use the old spacer, but I absolutely need these seals.

What is a guy to do? I can no longer return this cap, only exchange it. Same with the new opti. So I am out a lot of money in parts and I still don't have everything I need!

I'm fed up with this bull**** car and all it's stupid little problems. I want to get it back together and back into my brother's driveway so I can replace it with the Taurus SHO that should in it's place. Please help me here guys. This thing has me mighty upset and my brother isn't very happy either as he has been without a car for well over a month. I don't mean to throw all my anger on you guys, but this has to be one of the stupidest designs on the face of the earth and it really frustrates me that they wouldn't make parts available for a part that fails so frequently.

If anyone has a complete Optispark assembly (that is cap, rotor, distributor, assembled and ready to install, I will take it. It has to be 94' non-vented style. It can't be a pull off of a 40,000 mile car. It has to be a 0 - very low mileage Opti. I am equipped with Paypal and emotionally dependant so I am ready to buy.

Contact Jason Cromer and get a new Opti ($250). Guaranteed to work great and he's really cheap.

I know that Vandivere has the vented type (I think the number was 1104032) for $198.00. I called Dal Slabaugh at 877-448-5451 and asked because I didn't believe it was that cheap. I would think their price for the unventid would be similar. Try him.

If it's higher try brassington cadillac in Fla.

Sorry to say, but the problem is that you did not buy a new GM opti in the first place. You are not the first one to throw money away trying to patch one up.

The vented ones are more like $280 from Jason Cromer or Dal. They are more expensive than the non vented ones.

I just checked with Dal he said the vented is $198.00 and the unvented is $280.00 probably due to low use/demand. Just thought I would pass it along.

Thanks all. I am not trying to patch one up. I was/ am trying to replace the whole unit, but it wasn't sold as an assembly. The only people I could find selling it as an assembly was GM and they wanted upwards of $700.00.

There comes a time in a man's life where he has to have it towed in and bite the bullet.

There are sites all over the internet where you should be able to get one well under $300 for 93-94 and under $220 for the 95-97. Anyone who wants $700 for one is a screwmaster and you should cross them off of your list of people to do business with. That is almost a 300% markup.

I know that. My point was, all I need are two seals. I have the opti, I have the cap and rotor. I need these two seals.

Why should I have to pay $280 to get a whole assembly when I need two seals?

If you are talking about those little "O" ring seals, you can get a complete set of seals at any Northern Tool, Harbour Frieght, etc tool store. I got mine at a large car show from the swap meet section, but it is the same brand as those in the stores. They come in about any size one would need in the automotive hobby and only cost about $15 for about 250 of them. They have a storage box that organizes them by size. They have an SAE(?) rating for automotive use. If you go to a GM deal, you'll pay about $4 for two seals.

Thanks for the info Don, but I need the seals that go in between the opti and the spacer and the spacer and the cap. They appear to be lost in nowhere land.
