More on the LT4
More on the LT4
So i've been reading up on the "stock" LT4 in some of the vette's Camaro SS's and Firehawks, put out by SLP and they pretty much have the same HP going on that of 330hp. I also read that if you install the LT4 hotcam kit it will boost your hp somewhere around 420+. I was wondering if anyone could verify this, or correct it.
Also i was wondering what parts and mods came with the LT4 kit i see online for 2300 or so (not the hotcam kit) I'm new to the whole Camaro deal and not as wise as you guys
so i was wondering if anyone could impart there wisdom on me.
or hell just link me to a site with info all about it, the only sites i've been getting are ebay sites and people talking about their LT4 corvettes.

Just for an overview.... the Corvette LT4 330HP is rated with the "stock" LT4 cam, not the LT4 HOT cam.
The LT4 "kit" is not just a cam kit... it also includes LT4 heads and intake, the HOT cam, 1.6 roller rockers.
And, you aren't likely to end up with 425flywheelHP simply installing the "kit". That number is based on engine dyno tests done MANY years ago by MORE Performance. In order to get close to that, you need supporting modifications like long tube headers, a larger throttle body and injectors, and PCM tuning. What MORE Performance forgot to mention in the article was that they were also using a $3,000+ engine management computer, rather than the stock PCM.
If you like things all wrapped up in a nice neat package, the LT4 conversion kit is OK. But you could achieve the same, or better results for less $$$ with a good port job on your stock heads, and a more aggressive cam. Depends on what you want.

First off, the regular Vette LT4s were underrated, they actually put out closer to 350-360HP (300+RWHP). The Firehawk/SS LT4s were rated properly, but this was due to using the LT1 ECM tuning. With proper tuning the Firehawk/SS LT4s also put out 300+RWHP. This is through stock exhaust manifolds, cats, throttle body, etc. Add the LT4 Hotcam, and these engines will easily get 330+RWHP. Add all the boltons (headers, bigger TB, etc) and a good tune, and you can achieve 360RWHP on an M6 car (~425HP flywheel). If you want a well engineered, emissions friendly, reliable "kit", then the LT4 kit is worthwhile. Honestly though, if I were upgrading a regular LT1 I'd just get a cam and have the heads ported and polished. Less cost and equal or better performance depending on the cam.
