More Ignition Trouble?
More Ignition Trouble?
I posted a thread not too long ago about having opti issues. Replaced the opti, the coil, plugs, wires etc... I am driving about 2-3 miles and the car just quits running and does not want to refire. Eventually is starts running again with a large poof of black smoke coming from the rear of the car. Then sputters and barely wants to stay running. The problem I had before and didn't update the thread with what the problem was(6al box had gone bad). But the car shut off on me once before one morning , when it was raining and also this morning. Found that one of the water hoses had broken and looks like it got on the optispark. Now the car will run ok for a few miles and then sputters awfully. The only was I can keep it running is keep it in a lower gear and keep goosing it. If I stop at a light it will idle very high the quits running. I am not sure how to test the fuel pressure without a gauge. Any clues?
Re: More Ignition Trouble?
I went through 3 opti's before I got a good one, most only lasted a day or 2 before they started having problems, and they sound like the same one's your haveing.
I got mine at autozone, they have a lifetime warranty.

Re: More Ignition Trouble?
Fu*k.. sounds like the exact same problems I'm having... and datamaster is throwing a Low-Res Fail code (Opti)..
I wanted to switch to a DIS like the delteq or the ltcc, but I'm not sure if this can be done without still using part of the opti? (so I might have to buy a new one anyway?)

Re: More Ignition Trouble?
I am trying to track down a new harness for the opti since I did not replace that when I changed the opti? Would a scanner used by the auto parts store be able to determine that?

Just one of the 1000s of reasons not to buy electrical parts from cheap auto parts stores.
Re: More Ignition Trouble?
I replaced the opti harness ($105) from gm dealer and it seemed to run better but driving to work this morning it started puking just not as bad as it had before. What else could be causing this, the opti is a new gm part?
Re: More Ignition Trouble?

Follow Shoebox's website for ignition system trouble shooting first. Then if you still have a fuel system problem, attack that second.
