EGR and the opti

Hi guys, thought about posting this question in the EGR removal thread that's bouncing around at the moment but I am always wary of hijacking peoples threads. I have a '94 camaro LT1 and am removing all the smog gear to simplify my install (getting custom headers made). I have also been looking at doing a pre-emptive optispark swap since mine is unvented and and the more I read about the hassles people have been going through with these the more I think it makes sense since I also have my engine out of the engine bay. I am simply looking at venting the existing opti using a tech article I have found on the net as a guide.
http://www.fierolt1.com/lt1_9394OptiRepair.htm
First question: Has anyone tried this technique with any success?
Second question: will my removal of the EGR (and subsequent plating up of EGR fixtures prevent me from doin this mod?
I am having my computer reprogrammed to remove the EGR and AIR but I was wondering whether the vacuum source that the tech article refers to (vacuum source going to the EGR valve) will still be viable for venting the opti if the PCM has had this interface deleted. Thanks for any input guys, I have confused myself just writing this post, hope you guys know what the hell it is Im asking. Cheers

Re: EGR and the opti

All they are suggesting is that you connect the Opti vent line to the same nipple on the side of the intake manifold that the EGR vacuum line attaches to. It would look like this - note "tee" inserted at the vacuum nipple to allow both the EGR and the Opti vent to be connected:

Deleting the EGR system, and programming it out of the PCM will not affect the vacuum level at this connection in any way. It simply means you pull the EGR line off the vacuum nipple, and put the Opti vent hose on, not requiring the "tee".
