Monster Build advice

I havent done near as much research as i have thinking about this. Im wanting to take a LT5 and build a beast out of it. 1990-1995 ZR-1 Motor. Im wanting to do head work, cams, bore, stroke. All the goodies to make a bad azz strip maching. I currently have a 1994 Camaro Z-28 M6 w/a blown motor. It was going to eventually be a project but its happening sooner than expected. I was wandering if ya'll could help point me in the right direction as far as parts and everything for this build up and how much i could possible look at pushing. I know im goin 2 put the "Viper" T-56 in it and a nodular 9" rear under it. I just don't know what suspention to put under it and all that other stuff.

Thanks,
Steven

i hate to say it man but get your flame suit on.

Do you have any idea how much a complete LT5 Costs?

Also what are your options on a quad cam outdated v8?

Try to find any sort of aftermarket or hell parts for them at all!

you can probably find a complete good motor for 10-13k

limited options with the block and the heads.

Speak to one of our supporting vendors such as golen etc and have them build you a beast of a lt1.

I feel like a *** for posting this, but if your budget is what it is why the hell are you driving a1994 z28 if you can afford to drop 20k in mods on a car?

400 + cubic inch LTx's are mostly for just show as there is really no reason to make one that big.

For good reason. If you have a gaggle of money then by all means, knock yourself out for that exotic feeling. Other than that it just isn't worth it.
The only one I know of who did a great LT5 build was Lingenfelter in the late '90's. Not sure if they offer anything for LT5's anymore, but I do rememeber if you had to ask how expensive it was....

It would be cool, but very expensive and time consuming. And it would not make as much hp as an LSx based build. You can buy a complete LS7 "crate motor" for $13,000. That's 500hp out of the box vs. <400 for the LT5. Pop a cam in it and you are at near 600hp. And comparatively, it's a drop in vs. a custom installation. That's the way I would go.

Unless you add a blower, turbos or nitrous to the LT5, you aren't going to need a Viper T56 or a nodular 9-inch. It won't make that much power. Just use the same ZF 6-speed that GM put behind the LT5. Maybe a 12-bolt, but a 9-inch is overkill, weighs too much, cost too much in power loss, complicates things with the pinion shaft offset, etc.

Sounds like you don't want performance, as much as you want an "impressive" or oddball mods list. If that's your priority, just do it and tell us how it works out. You aren't going to find anyone here who has done it, and there is no relationship to the other LTx motors, so you're not even going to find a forum to post your questions on. Probably have better results on a Corvette site.

If you are wanting to do an LT5, then you are posting in the wrong forum.

Look up Doug Rippie Motorsports. I think they are a great source for LT5 stuff.

if you want something off the wall, drop in a 454 big block with a turbo......or as mentioned before, a LS7...or a 511 LSx

You could convert some Aero 4 valve heads for an LT1. That would be exotic, but some what realistic.

Your best bet is posting here. They can tell you what an LT5 is capable of. They will probably tell you the same thing I would suggest.. If you want an LT5 then buy a ZR1. Good Luck.
