Mobil1.. anyone using 15W50??
I've found on the dyno that the lighter the oil the better. The good thing about Mobil1 is that even the 0W-30 offers more than enough protection. Stock GM bearing clearances call for 5w-30 for all conditions and a heavier oil doesn't actually help that since the worst conditions are during start up. A really good oil grade to look at it is the Mobil1 0W-40 if you are looking for something that holds up to more abuse.

i put some in my 60k mile LT1 once....and i could hear a VERY noticable increase in engine noise on startup
i think it was too thick for the clearances...
i'll stick with 5w or 10w

Even in the summer, you're still better off running 0w40 M1 over the 15w50. If there is any question as to whether or not you're using the right oil, get a used oil analysis done at the end of your interval. This will tell you for sure if you've chosen the correct viscosity.
I run three qts. of 15w50 and 3 qts. of 10w30 and my car runs great. Reall wanted 10w40 but walmart doesn't sell it anymore and for 18.99 a 5qt jug I'll mix.
Also my bottom end is obviously not stock and my bearing clearences arent the same as GMs and the engine shop told me 10w40 would be best for my car.

I use 15w50 after my rebuild...I was using Royal Purple 20w50 but really can't find it anywhere and I did use 10w40 dino oil for break in. With my high volume oil pump/ etc...everything runs just right.
