Mobile 1 15w50 oil... Anyone using this?

Today in hopes to hide my slightly low oil pressure I decided to try the Mobil 1 15w50 oil. Seems to really work well. My Oil pressure was at idle around 10+/- psi and around 40+/- psi at WOT. Now it is around 25 psi at idle and 60 at WOT!!! The 1.6 RR noise (clacking) is cut in half too and maybe it is in my head but the motor seems to rev much smoother now.. Any comments or things I should watch out for using this heavy oil? I maybe drive the car 1 or 2 days a month....... and usually pretty hard on those days...

I have actually heard some good results with this oil. I use that oil on my supercharged mustand and it does wonders. I think it is some good oil. Just watch out for the oil leaks. If you had any leaks before, the synthetic will sure bring them out a little more.

That was likely the problem M1 5w30 runs very thin more like a 20wt., actually thining to the point of really being a 20wt. after some use. I know everyone on the LT1 boards thinks M1 5w30 is the ultimate oil, but it just aint so, these things like something thicker. Amsoil 5 or 10w30 GC 0w30, M1 0w40 are all better choices for the LT1 than M1 5w30. Personally I would not have gone that thick, but then again maybe you did not realize M1 5w30 was so thin, you took a huge step in viscosity, if it causes any troubles realize there are a lot of choices to try between the 15w50 and the M1 5w30 and maybe try one of them. Patman has gotten great results with the German made(check the bottle) Catrol Syntec 0w30, and the 0w40 M1 would be another easily available alternative. I am trying a 5w40, that I do not have results on yet, after some testing I will decide wether it was a good choice.

I switched too to bring my oil pressure up. It worked well. Now I mix 30wt and 50wt to make 40wt.

I'm curious and just had to ask when you put thicker viscosity oils in does it hurt performance, or gas mileage any?

I've been using M1 15-50 for a year now after I got tired of the 5/30 giving up on me after less than 3000 miles (would run rougher and noisier). The 15/50 never gives me any problems even at 5000 miles and my milage hase been great (~23 mpg).

I was really disapointed with the 5/30, I've never had an oil (dino or synth) that would have such a noticable degradation point. Well, at least I always knew when it was time to change the oil.

I've been running red top 15W50 for quite a while now. I'm in Florida though so you need to keep your climate in mind. I've had no issues with running this oil. It might cut down a little on the hp for me but not sure... haven't tested that. Need a dyno in my garage. LOL

Mobil 1 ,
15w50 for me, I can say enough good things about this oil.

Car starts up just fine in the winter with this oil too, and great oil pressure year round.

Thanks guys.... I always knew that I just didn't like the way the M1 5w30 thinned out. I only had about 500 miles and 8 months on the 5w30 and today it poured out like water......

This would be great if it was the only reason my OP was so low...

As far as heavy oil hurting performance, the more oil pressure you have usually robs some hp. Probably not much in our cars but the more power you have the more it takes.

Smokn, is your oil pressure still holding strong?

Does it stay high even after a run on the freeway?
