Mobil One made my car leak oil...

I have about 58,000 on my TA and I decided I wanted to change to synthetic. I can get it for about $2.00/quart so I figured I'd go ahead and do it. About 2 weeks after the change, my car starts to leak oil real bad. I tried to find where it was leaking, but there was so much oil covering the block and transmission, I couldn't tell where it was coming from. I lost 1/2 quart in those 2 weeks.

I took it in to GM, they discovered it was the intake manifold gasket. They told me that the molecules in Mobil One are so much smaller than that of non-synthetic, that it got through my gasket. He said that the Mobil One isn't worth the money in my LT1 and said it's only worth to use it in High-Output engines such as vette engines and such.

I thought he was full of sh*t....but I dunno. The work was covered under my extended warranty, but should I continue to use the Mobil One? What do you guys think?

Bwhahaha.Idiot. Please somebody tell me what a 'vette engine' is.

Anyways.....
That is a common occurance when switching to synthetic. It doesn't make you car leak, it just seeps more from existing leaks. I found that out back when i had my first jeep and wanted to put syn in it. Some jeepin buddies luckily saved me from turning my motor into one giant oil leak. It was discussed about a week ago if you try a search. If you have an extended warrenty tell them to fix the leak! not recommend a different oil.

They fixed the leak...and no I didn't tell him it was a vette engine. He was referring to the newer vette's.

i think its actualy a good idea to go with mobil one, you can discover weak areas in your engine you never would have know where there and can fix them before they become a real problem.
