misfire problems
misfire problems
alrighty so i gotta formula a few months back, everything was good...couple problems with it not starting at times, but i did figure that out, now i have a problem with misfiring and i am going to point it back to the coil pack conversion thats on the car, its a 97 formula with the delteq conversion and i also put a brand new opti spark on the thing, whole 600 dollar optispark..all brand new coils and wires and plugs.
there is this thing in the front of the drivers side valve cover, and it has 4 things that plug into it..well i unplugged those things a couple times and the cover is coming off which makes me worried and maybe thats part of it? idk.
over the winter the only things i have changed is i put an '01 ws6 3.42 rear-end in and changed the wheels to wagon wheels.
any thoughts anyone?
edit: sorry..more to put,
it will only misfire at WOT, when i am trying to race or do a burnout, and it seems to happen more often after i do a burnout, it will start breaking up and just misfire everywhere.

Is the 3.42 the stock gear replacement for your car? You could be hitting the rev limiter during your burnout causing the misfire. Have you had the computer re-programed to compensate for the new gearing ratio?

naw i had the 2.73s before but im not hitting the rev limiter, it will do it alot like....if i punch it from a dig, it will misfire immediatly at 3grand or w/e not just at high rpm's. buuuut this weekend i raced a mustang, first 2 tries i did a burnout and my **** misfired off the line so the third time i didnt do a burnout and i had no problems, spun through 1st and 2nd gear but no problems at all other than i lost by half a car length.
no i do not have it tuned to my current gears yet.

hmmm....well i just thought of this, i replaced 3 spark plugs since i have to wait for my friend to replace the rest, and i didnt gap em. what would the gap be for a 97 lt1? and would me not gapping them correctly cause an inconstant misfire?
