Misfire ideas?

Yes I did a search...

My dad borrowed the TA this morning and called me when he was coming back that it was misfiring. He got here and sure enough it is... You can especially feel it on the gas peddle (also notice everything small shaking, stuff which normally doesnt). There is also a good ticking coming from the driver's side and it feels like its missing on possibly 2 cylinders... He said the fuel gauge went down a good 1/4 tank on a very short drive. Im waiting for the engine to cool down and posted on the local F-Body (Finland) forum if someone local has a scanner for it (1995 TA).

I know normally everyone would say "opti, plugs or wires", however does the use of fuel and ticking give any further ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Misfire ideas?

Its gotten to the point now (had to move the car) where it feels like half the engine is down... It responds to throttle fine, just struggles in gears (places where I could be in 6th easily I am now in 4th and its struggling). Problem keeps getting worse.

I believe the problem is the opti, Ive been trying to call Elitesparkplugs but no one answers.

That was my original guess, well that and plugs... but what almost rules them out is that the problem is getting worse in a short period of time. Now if it was only one cylinder not running that I could understand, but dropping cylinders in the matter of minutes/miles leads me to believe Opti. I dont however want to waste time/money (remember I am in Finland) for an Opti replacement to find out its something else.

Nope, takes a bit longer to start up, and right away everything is shaking and you can just feel it (especially in the gas peddle).

I'm thinking it could also be the ignition control module. Just something to consider....

But if something like that went wouldnt it be all or nothing? Meaning it either works or doesnt, or can it start acting up like the Opti? Thanks.

No. On my Buick's V6 the car began to run poorly. It got worse but kept going.

Hmm, any way to test the module?

Re: Misfire ideas?

Yea mine got worse too. One of the plug wires was getting burned up against the header. Check for arcing at night, except on one of my wires I couldnt see any arcing. But after I took the wire off I ended up seeing that it was right against the header so I couldnt see it arc. It made a ticking noise and all that too. Except I also got an exhaust leak that makes a ticking noise.
