Question mis-firing?

hi guys
I was driving into work yesterday morning and the car all of a sudden, got a bad idle & loss of power when I step down on the gas pedal, the ses lights come on flashing.

He did check the wires and none of them showed any burned or melting indications.

i got to work, let the car sit for a couple of hours, went to a mechinic friend and his scanner said multilpy mis fires, but at the time i drove the car there, it ran great.

i did change the plugs & wires 2 years ago, the car has 59,000 miles on
her.

my mechanic said to use chevron fuel cleaning, he said this was the best on the market and to see how the car runs with this tank of gas.

what do you guys think it might be?

Had something similar happen a couple of years ago - maybe you've got the same prob.

My water pump was going, and it was leaking coolant onto the opti. That might be your problem 'cause you said it worked good after sitting for a while - maybe the heat from the engine evaporated the gunk in the opti?

I replaced the water pump, but left the opti as-is, and I haven't had any probs.

Am I the only guy around here with this many miles and a totally original opti I wonder? Lots of ppl have problems with them.

Hopefully this helps.

My car is doing the exact same thing as described in the first post. Only difference is that I had parked for about 10 mins and started it back up and it's been jacked ever since. If you find the cause let me know. I'm think it just might be the Opti I have a 172,000 on my car so I guess I'm about due.
