Opinion on Spark Plug Wires

Hey guys,

I tried doing a search but I couldn't come up with a straight answer. I have the Pacesetter LT's with no emissions and i've been trying to figure out which set of wires to buy. When I had my headers installed I put in my Accel Extreme 9000 wires. After like five days I started mis-firing again, when I checked it out my cylinder #2 wire had been cut into about half way deep on an angle by the alternator belt. I taped it up with electrical tape and re-routed it and it ran fine for like a two months. It's mis-firing again and I am certain that it is the wire again so I was just wondering if I should go with Accel again or if I should get a different set of wires. I want to keep the stock routing I already decided I didn't want to do OVC wires. I just need an opinion on whether I should buy a new set of the Accel wires or get something different.

I apologize for the lengthy post.

Thanks,
~Kevin

P.S.
I already replaced the Opti-Spark and the Waterpump, so I know that it is highly unlikely to be causing the problem. I also plan on replacing the spark plugs while i'm in there this time.

Why don't you try some OVTC taylor wires? I have them and they are great. I also really like MSD wires alot.

Re: Opinion on Spark Plug Wires

I would also suggest otvc wires, but im not for sure that would help the problem of the belt cutting the wire. You may need to just tie them up better, or re-route them if possible. I ran my wires in the stock location until they come up to go over the valve covers. I used alot of zip ties to keep them together and out of the way. If you do decide to go with otvc wires, i would suggest the ones that are already pre-cut and have the boots on them. I forgot what brand they are, maybe some one will chime in and fill in the blank. Anyways, the taylors were a complete PITA to install for me between cutting them and trying to get the boots on. Just my opinion

i just ran mine through the stock locations and used that "tuck" area connected to the block. no problem at all, i just point the boot on cylinder 5 to the front of the car and i have had no problems

Another vote for the taylor OTVC setup, get a tube of silicone lube (not the spray) and installing the boots is no big deal.

If your sure that its the wires i would go with MSD 8.5 mm. But if you just want to replace one wire you can go to an o reiley's and they sell each wire seperatly.

Re: Opinion on Spark Plug Wires

My main issue with the OVC wires was that I didn't like the look and I read that it was a PITA to do the wiring if they aren't precut. I hadn't found anyone that had them precut but I might look into what chuckd4more said about elitesparkplugs.

Would the MSD's be able to handle the heat from the headers? That was the main reason I bought the Accel's.

Also my last question, would it be a good idea to be running 7 wires Accel and then one wire the O Reiley one? Also where can you buy O Reiley wires?

Thanks again for everyone's reply.

I would definitely stick with the Accel 9000's over the MSD's, especially if you're concerned about heat resistance.

They have different brands at o reiley's so you can choose. Like when i cut an MSD wire I lust went in and i bought a single new MSD wire. I havent hade any trouble with my MSD's so far.

Re: Opinion on Spark Plug Wires

Personally, I run the Taylors in a OTVC setup, with Heat-Boots on the rear 4 cylinders to prevent burning.

I'm also running the Delteq on the intake so it's a different setup than most, but I ran a similar setup when I had just the Opti as well, and it worked great there too.

Re: Opinion on Spark Plug Wires

I won't recommend Taylor OTVC wires. Both of my new sets leaked around the boots, and I guess I will take some of the blame for having to make the opti ends. As for Taylor premade's, sure they are fine.

I have a set of Elite's OTVC wires, and they are higher quality then the taylors. But getting a hold of Elite is a major pain. They are great if you can contact them. The only method I didn't try as for contacting them was smoke signals. But they did get me my wires when the said they did. It was trying to contact them for other issues. There are others on the board in the group purchases section that aren't happy with their customer relations either.

Pick your poison.
