Meth kit ?

Just a quick question about a methanol kit...it says 50-70 more hp,would you have to tune your car to run this kit?Or could you install it and run it.

Re: Meth kit ?

I haven't heard too much on a meth kit on camaro's, but on diesel, meth injection ir usually used too lower the EGT's (Exhaust gas temperatures)

Re: Meth kit ?

They are used to lower fuel temp and boost octane..ie if you run 93 octane with the meth kit it would boost it to 110 octane..

Re: Meth kit ?

nobody has told you yet, so i will. Unless your running boost a meth kit is a complete waste of money on a stock n/a engine

The motor is far from stock..yes it N/A..there have been people running meth kits on N/a motors.I am just unsure if I would need a retune.

Yes, you would need a tune to get any benefit from it. Unlike nitrous, the meth injection itself is not a power adder. As stated, it provides the equivalent of higher octane/lower temps, which allows you to run more aggressive timing. It is particularly effective on forced induction setups, especially roots/twin screw style superchargers that generate high IATs. The usefulness on N/A is there to an extent, but your money could be better spent elsewhere IMO.

Re: Meth kit ?

There's only so much advance you can run to make maximum power. The LT1's aluminum heads pretty much allow it to handle the max advance. The advantage in running meth would be to build the engine for a higher dynamic compression ratio, when the higher octane fuel would normally be required.
