Metallic sound seems to be robbing hp

I have a metallic sound coming from my exhaust. It goes off and on but when I do hear it, my throttle response seems a bit lagged and I notice a significant hp loss. Any suggestions of what it could be?

When you say metalic you mean something is rubbing up against something else? Something is pinging? Something is clunking around?

Its hard to explain, my exhaust doesnt just rumble like normal it sounds like scraping metal when i step on the gas.
