Metallic Clicking or clacking noise
Hey there!
I have a '95 Z28 stock. Over the last couple of days (today's really bad) there's been a metallic clacking noise coming from the engine. It seems to be coming from the drivers side. It increases or decreases in frequency directly related to the RPMs (speeds up when the engine does, slows down when the engine does). There seems to be more of a hesitation in acceleration coming out of a stop but at higher speeds acceleration seems fine and power seems ok. Otherwise running ok.
But the noise is bothering me. CLACK-CLACK-CLACK-CLACK-CLACK

sounds like an exhaust manifold leak to me...check around there and see if you notice any obvious blackened areas that it might be happening...you probably won't since you can't see most of it, but its worth checking (would also explain the hesitating)
It would be a good idea to take off the valve cover and take a look. If you are getting a miss that corresponds to the noise, it could be valve train related. Possiblities might be bent pushrod, cracked rocker or spring, even something with a lifter.
If it is hard to isolate, let it idle with the cover off and use a long screwdriver or hammer handle and "lean" on the rockers one at a time to see if you can affect the noise. Hold the handle on the rocker so that it does not bounce. I hope you can understand what I mean.
