GM set the REDLINE and the cut off is for those who choose to ignore or, in a rare case a runaway WOT engine.

If you REALLY want the Maximum SAFE rpm, stick to the factory redline. It's the RPM that GM, in their testing, shows to be the maximum SAFE rpm the engine should reach and still be SAFE. NOW, if you're determined to push the envelope, go for it.

Remember the line from Pulp Fiction when Travolta told Samuel L. Jackson that he was being pushed into the "RED" - implying he was about to BLOW? RED=Redline; RED=Danger.

Should you choose to ignore it, it's your call. I never do, but that's my call.

Do you seriously type all of this up every time you post?

To answer the OP- if you have the $$ to rebuild/replace the bottom end, just spin it up. When it breaks, then to the batcave to rebuild it better.

You do realize you could simply type it once in your signature, and save yourself a lot of work.

Don't you get it? It's West Point! Oh, and Harvard! You cant' just signature that kinda thing, it needs to be mindlessly inserted to every post for the world to know.

Jake, I'm glad your here to help, but that is one of the most annoying things see when I read posts. With all due respect brag about that stuff somewhere else. How would this forum look if everyone went ahead and typed junk at the bottom of each post like that.

Sounds like a nice set-up and I'm sure you'll be very happy with Lloyds work and advice. If it peaks at 6300 you will at least want the shift points a couple of hundred revs higher for the best performance. That is were I draw the line with a stock bottom end, about 65-6600 rpm. Mine peaks at 6k and likes 6400 shift points. The next cam will have a 6600 shift point and at that level I still think it will live for a while. JMO!!
