Question Mass Air Flow Sensor Question

I need advice. There are two types of aftermarket Mass Air Flow Sensors those made for cold air intakes and those made for regular air intakes. Now I have a 1996 ss with ram air and a high flow filter. Now should I get a Mass Air Flow Sensor for cold air because ram air shoots in air from a vent in the hood or should I get a regular aftermarket Mass Air Flow Sensor for a regular stock air intake LT1 system. Also does anyone have a favorite brand I know there are three out there Summit, Jet, and Ranatelli.
Thanks

I'd just stick with the stock maff.. If you ever want to swap cam at anypoint in time. You'll be better off with it.. Tuning will be alot easier.. If your looking for a good HP increase.. Look into MadZ28 tune or PCMforless.

Re: Mass Air Flow Sensor Question

Do a search the VAST majority of us will tell you to keep it stock. With a search you can also find detailed explainations as to why those are such a bad idea.

Yep...was a long time proponent of the Granatelli until I learned what it does. Most untuned (pcm) cars are on the rich side and adding a Granatelli will lean it out a hair and increase power. A properly tuned pcm with a stocker will do the same thing....I made the switch...

I read on here some people running w/ the Z06 maf w/ success, probably find some good info. w/ a search. I think all they do is input different tables to make it work.

Re: Mass Air Flow Sensor Question

Porting or aftermarket ends destroys calibration, the ZO6 MAF uses a higher frequency range so once you are actually moving enough air to warrant the freer flowing piece our pcm once reprogrammed is not capable of understanding it anymore, so past 360gps you end up having to treat the tuning as speed density where with the stock MAF it and the pcm comunicate well to something like 470gps.

Again keep it stock.

Don't take mod advise from someone who currently lists the Crapatelli and Hypercrap in their mod list unless it is a joke. For the $600 wasted there the car could easily be half a second faster if he had gone with useful mods instead.

Re: Mass Air Flow Sensor Question

Thanks for the help about the Mass Air Flow Sensor, just saved me $300 bucks. I think I will put it towards a new intake. Thanks again
