MAS Can i Take it off

MAS Can i Take it off

What would happen if you took your MAS off. Would it trow a SES light or what.

MAS?

maybe you are talking about the Mass Air Flow(MAF) the large sensor connected to the intake end of your intake elbow. if so then you will need to keep that connected since it relays vital information, specifically the volume of air entering your motor, for the PCM.

but unplugging the MAF will throw SES and speed density is inferior to a MAF sensor so theres really no point to unplugging it anyway.

its a good way to test your mafs, if your car runs better without the sensor plugged in, you need a new sensor

I dident think it plyed that big of a role. So is it worth gettin aftermarket.

It is one of THE most important sensors. The right way to remove it completely is reprogram the PCM to run specifically in speed density mode. This requires lots of tuning to get it right when you start adding mods.

I would leave the MAF alone and concentrate on *real* mods... even if that means getting some dirt under the fingernails

Not true. Maybe without programming, but speed density is much better when used with the right programming.

that must be why speed density has been phased out of every car built since the mid 90's.

... lets see... how many top end racing ECU's use MAF?... lets see..... 0. Not one. Motec, F.A.S.T, Electromotive, Magnetti Marelli, all use speed density.

Why? Do you know the difference between the two?

Because MAF sensors adapt well to small differences, such as manufacturing variances on productions vehicles, making it more attractive to the EPA maybe????

When either is tuned correctly I really don't see any advantages on either side, with the exception of cost reduction and the ever so slight flow loss reduction of an SD system.
