Many questions.
Many questions.
Just recently my car has started to shift violently but only after being on a highway for an extended period of time. once i turn the car off and back on it shifts fine untill i go back on a highway for a while? any suggestions? also my car starts to heat up while sitting in traffic or waiting in a drive thru? possible water pump issue? also my 1997 camaro z28 4sp auto has cold air intake, cat back exaust, msd ignition, what should be my next step to make it faster, my friends say gears, but what gears would i use without reving high on the highway, i currently have 3.23's and at 70 mph i am at 2250rpm? please help.

Re: Many questions.
Some helpful suggestions..... put only one question in each post. The more questions you put in a thread, the less repsonses it seems to get.
Seperate it into three posts, put the "shifting" problem in the "Drivetrain" forum, then post a seperate question on the overheating problem either here, or on "General F-Body Tech and Info", and keep the question about "next mods" on this forum.
Add a "signature" with information about your car, similar to what you posted above. By using the "signature" field, it insures that the info about your car is included in each post.
As far as the over heating problem, have you checked the coolant level? Have you bled the air out of the cooling system? Have you verified both fans are operating? Have you compared the coolant temp shown on the gauge to the temperature showing in the PCM? Has the coolant been changed, radiator flushed, etc? Checked the radiator for dirt or plastic bags?
Is this a new problem, or has it always done this? What are the actual temperatures you are seeing.... on the highway, stopped in traffic, etc.? How high does it get? Stock programming does not turn the first fan on until 226degF, so you could see the needle move above the mid-point in heavy traffic on a hot day.

Re: Many questions.
it is only gettin a little past 210 degrees, but this was scaring me becuase ive only owned the car for 3 months and before the last 2 weeks it stayed in the 180 range, and in the last 2 weeks or so it seems that everytime im in the car that it gets to 215 or 220. Coolant level is fine as for the maintenance, i couldnt really tell you because ive only owned it for 2 months. The odd thing is that the car ran cooler when it was 100 degrees out, than it does now at 50, ( i live in orlando) So i just figured something was failing and that it was not a buildup of some sort in the cooling system. i guess ill just have it looked at so i can get raped by the $70/hr labor charges that the shops just love to dish out.

Re: Many questions.
Drain your coolant and remove the thermostat. Put it a pot of water on the stove. Watch it as it comes to a boil. If it opens before it boils it's OK if it don't let it boil and see. If it don't open at all, there is your problem.
Re: Many questions.
210 hahaha mine was on 220 all the time when i got it dont worry its normal for these cars
get 3.73 they wont raise your rpms much and will be snapper off the line
the trans i believe is heating up and causing the fluid to thin out and the trans is internally worn so it causes more slack and harder operation add a trans cooler and rebuild when it comes time
