A few "newbie" questions.

I just got a 2002 Trans Am and I have a few basic questions. I've read on here that you should change your oil after the first 500 miles, is this true? Most of you use Mobil 1 5-30? Also, when I change the oil, should I change the stock air filter I think they do at the dealer...never changed oil myself Is there any special one I should use... like K&N, etc. Also, I just got my first tank of gas and where I went they had 94 octane, most of the gas stations near me are 93 octane, will it be OK to switch down to 93 next time. Sorry for the stupid questions. Thanks in advance.

I used to use Mobil 1 10W-30 and Mobil 1 filter M1-206. Since they changed their formula, I've switched to Redline 10W-30 (still use the Mobil 1 filter though).
I use either 93 or 94 octane all the time here in PA, no harm in switching.

Cool

Yeah, our cars call for 5w30 but I like to use 10w30 since it's a little thicker. Also anything above 91 octane will be good for our cars.Good luck and congrats on the car.

93 octane is what the book has, I changed my oil
the first time at 500 and have never let it get
dark in 21,000 using dyno oil. Hot north texas
10W30 I use castol , I from the old school and
dont understand synthetic oil, if is dark its
dirty, need changing.

I use Castrol 10-30 in winter months and 10-40 in summer (hot N. TX). Old school too - never messed with synth. I use GM or Purolator filters. I think I went 1000 mi before my 1st oil change. My LS1 idled rough for first 1500 miles, but now at 10k it's singing a happy song.

I changed mine at 4200..
Used Mobil 1 5w30
I used a purolator filter but am looking for the mobil 1 M1-206 since thats a better filter.

The car dynoed well before and I am tempted to dyno again for grins..

Car felt smoother with the oil change.. and I am not a person that is into SOTP improvements.. but it does feel smoother..

I also reset the built in oil change meter..

I chose 5w30 because in texas heat I want something thinner to flow.. and i want it to be technologically advanced to cling and cool...

The highest we have at the pump here in California is 91, unless you pay $4.30/gal for 100!!!
