I like banging gears just as much as anyone does, but an auto with a nice stall and shift kit is always gonna be my choice at the dragstrip!!

not to mention you don't even get to 5th or 6th in the 1/4 mile unless you have like 4.10's or higher in the rear end so those extra gears are worthless but I do love my 6 speed though for street driving.

we dont need to start an a4 vs m6 war . Ive had both cars and i must say that i love my m6 a LOT more than the auto. I took both to the track and the m6 that i have now ran .2 faster stock. It really depends on the driver though. Some people cant drive manuals. Anytime ive run into a GT or another LT1 on the street(most of the ones i ever run into are autos) i have always had the upperhand. I do not support street racing at all though but i have done it. I guess im just a good driver compared to others.

The way i do it is that i put in in 1st then once i get going ill put it in "D". Seems to have more power when i have it in 1st. And mostly use that if your going from a roll to keep the tranny from shifting on you. Just don't downshift it unless you have to.

oh, i got all caught up in typing and didnt answer his question. Keep the car in "D", there is really no point in trying to shift it manually. You will actually run slower. When i had the 93z a4 i just kept it in "OD" or "d" It doesnt matter.

didnt think saying mans r better would start WWIII but yeah jasons93z is right it really does depend on driver ability and 'fastZ is right an auto is really better on the strip but i bought my stick cuz road racing is so much more fun then draging but that might spark another war 2 so take it as u like

When I bought my car I was actually looking for a six speed hardtop. I found no hardtops, and very few six speeds. The six speeds I did find I couldn't afford, so I ended up with an auto and T-tops. If I had the six speed I probably wouldn't have as much motor work done but have some nice suspension pieces. However, given the setup of my car, I've got her ready for drag racing

Burnout in 1st... leave it in D to race down the strip... I'll usually manually shift her into 4th once i'm off the gas after the traps.
