Manual Fan Switch Questions

I have all the parts I need for the manual fan switch mod and just have a few final questions, I'm a noobie to electronics so bear with the "silly" questions

Q1: Anode Cathode, will someone clear up which is which? Anode = + Cathode = - right?
Q2: Can I test this on a spare 12v car batter i have sitting around with wires or is it going to overload the wires/Fry my 12V diodes? (err too many amps?)
Q3: Suppose now i have the black wire from the "-" on the battery, do i hook this up to the "-" or the "+" side of the LEDs?
Q4: Is there a correct way to solder the ends of the LED to wires? Just wrap the wire around and drop a bit of solder on it? Just want to make a lasting connection

1. correct-from what all online sources tell me

2. As long as you have LEDs with built in resistors or the proper resistors added, there should be no problem.

3. Negative from the battery goes to - of the LED.

4. I like to use heat shrink tubing to cover soldered connections, but you have to remember to put them on first. You can't use it when tapping into a straight through wire. You always heat the wire and apply solder to it. Look online for soldering tips.
You can also just use some red Scotch wire tap connectors instead of soldering.

With the LED, if it does not come on when hooked up, just reverse the leads and try again. Nothing to get hung up on...
