Manual Fan switch

Happy New years everyone.

I was bored the other day, so i decided to wire up a manual fan switch. The one with the leds and the 3 way switch. So i wire it up, turn the car on. Flip the switches. Everything works like a charm. Im thinkin sweet. go to turn the car off and start cleaning up. Turn it off. and as soon as i turn the key to the off position, all the lights go off in the car, except the leds. I am thinking that this is just because i tapped my power off the cigarette lighter. And it is always getting power. Anyone agree with this. I never thought of that before i went ahead and took my power from there. If i take my power from somewhere else. will the lights go off when the car isnt running?? Thanks for the help guys

You're right on target. If I remember correctly, I tapped power off of the radio. It only comes on when the car is on.

How do you have it wired because I have done several manual fans and always get power for the LED's from the cigarette lighter. It shouldnt matter if its hot all the time or not because it should only be grounded when the switch is turning the fans on. The LED's should be tapped into the same wire that grounds your fans when the switch is on. My guess is your have the grounds wired incorrectly.

all my wiring was done to that diagram. I have double and triple checked everything. I originally thought it was bad ground at first and re did them all.

it works fine, the lights come on and off. and will both go off in the off position, as long as the key is to on, and when you turn it to off. they both come on, no matter what position the switch is in.
