Exclamation Manley Sportsmaster Rods, 6"

So, any experience with these babies? I am leaning heavily towards them after hearing scat rods are kinda "unfinished." LOL. But, they just seem not very well put together from what I hear. So, a couple people have said step up to the plate and get the Manley Sporstmaster rods. I would need to get the large journal ones, correct? I am going the 6 inch route this time, so keep that in mind. These are excellent quality from what I hear, but I just want some opinions, maybe you have used them and abused them with no problems...
I want to know!
I will have 450rwhp when done, so keep that in mind.
Thanks
Cody

firebirdStud,

I have these rods in a 5.85" length in my engine now and have been pleased with them. You are correct, you will need large journal rods. Specifically, for a large journal 6.0" length connecting rod with .9281" pin you would want Manley part number 14103-8. Hope this helps.

Brian, YES it does help! Thanks. So, is 580 grams pretty light, or heavy for connecting rods?
Is 3/8" bolts ok, or should I be getting 7/16"? It seems that 3/8" is kinda small, but maybe it doesn't matter so much on connecting rods as it does for roller rockers? Also, are these good rods as far as clearancing goes? I dont want to have to grind on them too much to accomodate a .600" lift cam....
Thanks
Cody

Re: Manley Sportsmaster Rods, 6"

so machinist one, how did they do for clearance issues? are they pretty small aound the bolt area of the rod? My block has already been clearanced, and I am hoping I won't have any issues as far as cam and block touching by the rods. Also, are they pretty light to help get rid of unwanted rotating mass? Thanks again dude!

Cody,

587g is a pretty light 6 inch rod. Not a featherweight or "ultralight" but one of the lighter standard weight rods.

Re: Manley Sportsmaster Rods, 6"

They pretty much clear the block on a 383, metal is removed to give clearance, not because they hit, this changes though with core shift in different blocks. They should be one of the better fitting rods out there.
