MALF 33 only in Stop N' Go traffic
MALF 33 only in Stop N' Go traffic
Just got done with my LE2 build, doing all the minor tweaking, I seem to keep getting the MALF 33 (High MAP) when I am in Stop and Go traffic then it goes away once I get moving. Any Ideas where to begin? Thanks in advance!
When I was running a cam I would get low/high maps codes every once in a while. Not really hurting anything, just sets the light. Have the code programmed out.
(This is of course assuming that it is running right, you could have a leak or something causing it too)

The code sets when the PCM sees MAP above 68kPa with closed throttle. Cam overlap can be a problem, although the tune may be able to increase vacuum to the point where the code won't set. Could also be a problem with a bad valve adjustment, misfires, vacuum leak, etc. Ask Bret if the cam should produce more vacuum than that.
I am pretty sure there are no misfires, off topic I am running NGK TR55 at the .05 gap should I be running a tighter gap? I know the car is running rich because my eyes burn when standing behind it. Just some minor stuff I need to get figured out to get her dialed in. Going to do some data logging hopefully tonight and get that to PCMforless and see what Brian has to say.
Cam overlap can cause it to run rich.... the incoming air charge blows right through the open exhaust valve at idle and causes the O2 sensors to report the engine is running lean, PCM adds fuel it doesn't need, runs pig rich at idle/low rpm. You also need to check for the classic problem of "split BLM's".
Split BLM - The long term fuel corrections (Block Learn Multipliers) for the left and right banks go in opposite directions.... one heads up toward 160, the other heads down toward 108.
I had this issue w/ my current set up. I have the CC306, and I would get this code every now and then. I replaced the MAP sensor, and my issue went away.
Take out your MAP and look at the little orange seal around it. If it's damaged it could also be causing your problem. If you replace it, make sure you put a little coating of oil on the ribs.
You can only order these small seals from a dealership though.
Good luck.
