making le2's flow better..

im using a secondhand set of le2s with 20k miles on them, this is what i was told but i cant verify that.

im under the impression that they have the 2.00/ 1.56 valves in them. i should have measured before sending them to the machine shop

in my basement i have a set of trickflow 2.02 intake and 1.60 exhaust valves that come in the lt1 trickflow head.

while the heads are out, should i have him open the heads up for the 2.02s? do you think id see any worthwhile flow gain from doing this? id like to squeeze as much out of these heads as possible. i know quality of the valve comes into play, im guessing the ones in there are ferra's and the others trickflows that come in the lt1 head,

is there anything else i can do for a little extra flow / power? thanks

I would leave the heads alone. The LE2's have a very good reputation of working well. I wouldn't want to chance screwing that up.

Go too large on the intake valve diameter, without corresponding cuts to the adjacent walls, and you can lose flow due to shrouding.

Maybe you should have contacted Lloyd first. Just a thought.

Bad idea for several reasons one being that you will have to drop $$$ for new valve seats as you can't use 2.02 1.60 with the factory valve seats. Not to mention you will probably do more harm than good - the port job is designed to work the 2.00 valve size.

that was a first concern of mine but i didnt think moving up the small amount would cause problems,

ill probably end up leaving them alone, im tight on money and spending the extra money for the bigger valves wouldn't really be worth it right now

thanks for the input guys

That's a very good idea. Lloyd loves to talk to customers, even if you purchased his work used. (That's how I got mine actually)
Depending on how old the LE2 heads are, he may be able to improve the
valve job and offer suggestions for the valve and spring combination.
Being used, you'll want to make sure those springs have adequate pressure for the cam you intend to use.

Depending on the application, additional portwork may be benificial.
What are you putting them on? 350, 355, 383 ....?

its going in a 383 with a custom grind cam based off the le2 but slighty more erratic. i know i could benefit from better flowing heads ( also running a 125 wet shot) but at this point im almost out of money and as we all know le2s are a solid piece to begin with. ill probably leave them alone now for moneys sake but maybe next time i do a teardown ill send em out to loyd and really have him go wild on them.

i suppose before i do any of that i should have them flowed right.. this way i can get an idea of what im working with and what can be done to them

Sounds like you got it figured out
As long as the seats and springs in good shape, you should have no issues at all.
