Which are making faster 1/4 mile times Manual or automatic?
I was wondering which one is better to get? i know a lot of it has to do with the driver but if you had the best driver and a automatic f-body completely the same which would be faster in the quarter mile? I have heard the auto's looses power going through the drivetrain. Is this true? Any opinions appreciated.
Usually M6s have the upper hand, provided they both have traction and the same mods. However once an auto gets a higher stall converter, mod for mod the autos are faster, mostly due to a better 60ft time
There is no human on earth that can shift an M6 faster that an automatic tranny. Autos are much more consistant in the 1/4, but M6's are more fun to drive. You are the one that has to pick your poison, but FYI, i have a friend with a much more modded M6 and i take him to school at the track everytime in my A4.
Like mentioned, if you plan to bracket race, an auto is the way to go, way more consistent. If you just want to race for time slips, don;'t care about points or anything get a 6 speed. They are much more fun to drive. 6 speeds have the cool factor, not many cars have 6 speeds! I had 3 6 speed cars, this is my first auto, not sure if I'll like it or not. But plan to race a good bit this year. I will be getting a trans-go kit!
redlt1z28, pretty much it matters on what YOU want man. Do you want a race car or a cruiser? Or even a little of both? If you want to race it a lot, get an A4. Like everyone before me said it's much more consistant. If you want something to cruise in and just have some fun in, get an M6!!!! They are a blast and I LOOOOOOOOVE mine to death! But seriously, test both and think about what you want to do with the car and then decide. You'll know what to do. Good luck!
I prefer 6 speed, but yes an auto shifts faster than a human. However you dont lose as much power to the rear with an M6, when you start upgrading though if you plan to drag on slicks, your probably going to blow the rear sooner with an M6 car.
MPH should probably be in favor of the M6, but the ET should work in favor of the A4 most of the time. Drivetrain loss is always greater in an auto car.
I could give many reasons why I dont like autos, but I dont drag, if I did, then maybe the story would be different. I still like to shift my own car, only having gas and brake just doesn't make me feel connected to the car, but I'm narrow minded so

Thanks for all the replies.
I am still going to think about it, i currently own a M6. Yes ya'll are right in saying that they are fun to drive but when it comes to drag racing they will not hook. It seems to me that it would just be easier to go faster in a A4. Thanks again.

A4's are typically faster at the track, and the rear ends last a lot longer. If your looking for a drag strip machine go with an A4.
