major oil leak
major oil leak
I have a 94Z that Im almost finished rebuilding. this car sat for 5 years, so it has taken me some time to remember where everything goes anyway on the back of the motor towards the driver side of the oil pressure sensor there is another threaded hole in the block that is half covered by the head. When installing the head I must have overlooked the fact that this hole has nothing in it and also is half way overlapped by the head. I started the car and put my hand back there and it is a oil fiesta and it isnt coming from the oil pressure sensor or the intake so this is my only guess. I will post a pic from the rebuild asap. WHAT GOES HERE? please help.
Here are the pictures the first is a view of the whole motor for reference the second is a close up and the third is the same as the second with explanation. O.P.S. is oil pressure.sensor.

yes. it is in and tight. I am sure that the leak is coming from the other hole. I started it with my hand back there and didnt feel anything from the oil pressure sensor but a stream of oil was coming from what I think is the problem hole. does anyone have any idea what goes there? is it a freeze screw or what?
I can't see if anything is supposed to go there. I don't recall putting anything back right there when I swapped my heads.
Unfortunately in these pics the oil sensor blocks that spot:

I also don't recall removing anything from that location, or putting anything back, when I fixed the rear intake leak, but that doesn't mean I didn't. I actually don't even recall seeing a hole in that location.
ya I agree I've done head and intake work in the past and never recall that hole but this time I did a complete rebuild and sent the motor out to be cleaned and bored .30 over. If anyone knows please let me know, In the mean time I am gonna tear down that side of the motor so I can deal with it right when I get an answer.
Thanks

I would remove the intake manifold and double check things, you will have to scrape off the rtv and put new beads back on. I'm not sure if you can reuse the gaskets or not, even though they are new, I think the are for one torquing only, but I could be wrong.
I have lost 10 quarts in the past two days and have only started the motor 3 times for a total of 2 minutes running time. so there is no way that a small intake leak could be it. plus I felt back there the last time it was started and I felt a steady stream of oil in the exact location of this hole, the rtv on the intake has no oil on it.
That hole needs to have a plug in it. I was looking for a leak on my daughters car and it was from that hole. Her's had a plug in it but wasn't sealed. Had to pull intake and head, remove plug, seal threads and replace. now no more oil leak. I understand that plug is on all small blocks driver's side and is under pressure like the oil sending hole.
