Arrow Major issues with friends 95 Trans Am

Hey guys, My friend has a 95 Trans Am with 100,000 miles and recently started to do a tune up on his car. He replaced the plugs, wires, and cap and rotor kit. He ripped the stock intake elbo aswell. When he went to start it it started running like crap( exhaust popping almost like a backfire when he pressed the gas pedal and bog down and stall out when he gave it some more gas. So I had him retrace his steps and he redid the whole job over again and same problem. we checked the injectors and regulatorand they checked out fine. We also cleaned out the EGR and MASS AIr sensors also and they seem to working fine too. The car is spitting out a crapload of codes also. I'm just frustrated with it and its not even mine. Has this happened to anybody else. Tom

If he ripped the elbow badly enough, it could be getting air in the engine that the MAF doesn't know about. That would cause it to pop and backfire.

As for the codes, what are they?

Is the sensor on the elbow plugged in or did it get torn off?

The codes that the car is shooting out are really non existent. The car spits out the codes and then a minute later they are no longer there. I think the car has a mind of its own. As for the elbow, we were able to get one tonight from a friend who kept his stock one. There was no difference after we changed it. I was thinking it may be the PCM, what do you guys think?

Have you scanned the car to see exactly which codes it's throwing? The PCM will retain the codes for a while even if the light goes off.

My shot in the dark answer... check the plug wires and make sure they're going to the correct cylinders, also look to see if they're arcing.

Well, it may sound stupid, but did he get the wires on right?
If the SES light comes on, and goes back off, the code is still stored in the PCM. Get it scanned and see what the actuall codes are.

Might have damaged the MAF when he cleaned it as well.

Edit: Got beat to the punchline.
