Re: Magnaflow or Hooker Catback

I have had the hooker catback on my 95 since mid summer, and we have had a couple good shows. it has seen about 600 miles of interstate driving in bad weather, with both road salt and chemical melting agent spray getting on it. the bare metal is showing signs of of oxidization like turning mily white, buy i sprayed the welds with rust-o-leum and there is still no rust anywhere on the whole system. as far as dyno gains, loose the cat and you'll see and improvement. I think alot of systems are overpriced and dont give you nearly the preformance gains advertized. go with the sound you like like the most.

Well... I am going to have knock on wood for this.

But I have never been pulled over for noise pollution. Live in a densely populated area and have a cam. Its loud, but its not CRAZY loud below 2 1/2k. Just keep it to a dull roar and no one should car.

INSANE meaning it sounds awesome as hell. Everyone compliments my cars tone ALL the time... people are in love it actually.

I personally like Hooker better, but you need to get the one that you think sounds better... they are both great mufflers, just a personal decision. The more expensive catbacks are great too, they differ in sound a lot more, IMO. I would stick with Hooker or Magnaflow (Loudmouth is loud, but empty sounding)

Normally I'd say ebay, but that's a good price... Especially with the free shipping.

Re: Magnaflow or Hooker Catback

If you ever plan to take off your cats, or do away with the manifolds, stay away from the loudmouth. It will pop, and the tone will turn to sound more like a whiney bitch than a nice sbc. I have the magnaflow on my car for a good reason, it sounds great, but is about as close to stock idle volume that a heads/cam 383 will get, and I can drive right by the cops with their window down, and as long as I coast, they never do more than the usual glance at a car that sounds so good

Also, it will wake the dead at WOT.

Don't pick a catback for the power, they will all be very close to one another, just pick based upon the sound that you like and want.

Re: Magnaflow or Hooker Catback

I bought the Magnaflow A couple of months ago. I think the build and looks are great but after the new wore off I have started hating the sound. It fine while cruising but sounds like a truck when you get on it. I hope the sound changes when I get my headers installed. If not I am going to find a way to block the side that has no restiction. I went through the same debate before buying mine and bought the Magnaflow because of comments from the board and stainless. If I had it to do all over again I would have gone hooker.
Also the Mustang comparison of the mufflers does not really apply to F-body unless you plan to do duals. Our mufflers are a totally different design. There is no way Magnaflow is quieter than Hooker.
