MAF or speed density
MAF or speed density
I own a 93 z28 Lt1, so far all that is done to it is K&N CAI and a dynomax exhaust. I was wondering if the stock 93s were speed density or mass air.
If so is their a conversion kit (for highschool students with a low budget
) to make it mass air.

Re: MAF or speed density
The 93s are fine, to a point, They are harder to tune because of the removeable prom (chip). I had a 93 T/A for 8 years (93 to 2001) I also have a couple of chips that are burned for the different stages of mods I went through. The car seemed to respond well until I went with the longtube headers and a cam, after that it was very finicky with the tune.
The easiest way to goto a MAF system is an underhood harness from a 94 and a 94-94 ECM. With that you'll also have to of course get a MAF,heated O2 sensors, correct throttle body (the plug for the IAC is different) and switch around a few wires under the dash. If the car is an automatic you'll have to figure out a way to lock up the converter and get the speed signal to the ECM, or put in the appropriate 4L60E tranny, since the 93 autos were a non-electronic 5 pin 4L60 (700R4).
The 22 # injectors on the 93 will work with a tune, but if you don't tune it the world will not stop spinning, you'll just have to fiddle with fuel pressure to get it to run on par.
