!maf and SES lights for pre-cat O2's

I did the !maf mod (ported and descreened) and put a new K&N CAI and all of a sudden my SES light came on. I had it scanned at autozone and it was throwing a 71 & 74 i think which were saying i was running too rich in bank 1 and 2. I have been driving for a while with it on and i haven't noticed any change in gas mileage or anything. Any help would be appreciated!

Can we assume you mean codes P0171 and P0174? That would be "fuel trim lean" for banks 1 and 2. The O2 sensors are detecting a "lean" condition, the long term fuel corrections have tried to bring it back where it belongs by adding fuel, and the long term corrections have max'd out without curing the problem. Is it possible you had too much oil on the K&N? Check the elements/wires in the MAF and see if there is oil on them. Clean off with electronics spray cleaner.

Also, check the elbow between the MAF and the TB to make sure it is fully on the TB, and is not ripped.

If that's not it, and you made no other changes, there's a good chance you damaged the sensor on the MAF housing. If you did, you are out a couple hundered bucks, for a mod that really accomplishes little, IMHO.

yes that was it

It might be... But it was factory pre-oiled

I'll check that out, my friend installed my 160* thermostat while i was working on some other things so its possible that he might not have fully tightened it.

If that's not it, and you made no other changes, there's a good chance you damaged the sensor on the MAF housing.
no that wouldnt be cool, when i was cutting the black piece it may have bent too far to the side but i'll check this out too to make sure.

Do you mean the sensor part with the little frail looking wires between the metal bars... this doesnt seem too safe, i was extra careful not to damage this.

Thanks for all the help... it's too late at night right now to go digging in my engine so i'll do that tomorrow. I was thinking of replacing the o2s but now that i know this, it will save me some money.
