MAF Problems
MAF Problems
Had my car scanned the other day and it threw a code that said the MAF was malfunctioning, so I guess it's dead. As far as replacing the MAF what are my options? What would the price be for a stock replacement? Any reccomendations on what I should do?
Re: MAF Problems
You should first find out and post the exact trouble code. It may be that the MAF is not getting power-a common thing on 96 and 97s. Check the pink wire to the MAF for 12v when the key is ON.
The +12V simply supplies power to the electronics in the MAF sensor. It shouldn't affect the frequency readings if its a little bit lower than 12V. I would try and find out why the voltage on the pink wire is less then the system voltage, if your dash volt meter is indicating more than 12V and the MAF sensor is only seeing 11.5V.
Again.... WHAT WAS THE EXACT CODE if you have one? There are several different MAF codes in OBD-II, and knowing the specific code may point you in the correct direction. Or tell us what your "issues" are? Do you even have a code? What problem are you trying to diagnose? You probably should have just started a new thread..... you really didn't gain anything by resurrecting this one from the grave.

I have another thread its just no one is responding to it. when it is in open loop it has missing and hesitation issues the issue is worse as it gets colder. when in close loop it has issues starting without the gas being hit some of the time. also when started it will hesitate only for a moment when hot. During hesitation it is running rich (can smell it). I ran the car in sd mode with the MAF off this morning and the car did not miss. And then I pluged it in and started the car and it was missing bad. Also last night i checked the MAF 12V ref signal and it was at 12.13 when the engine was warm. so for some reason the signal is weaker when cold.
although when i ran the car is sd mode it started and stalled emidietly twice but after words it ran without stumbling or missing. than like i said when i pluged the maf back in and turned the car on it started missing and stumbling. kind of interesting

oh sorry forgot to answer that. I have no codes. Also when i had the scanner attached the coolent temp sensore looked good. I tested the tps and IAT sensors and there both good as well.

Your other thread has numerous responses. By starting a new thread, you have lost the continuity of the responses that have already been posted. You're the one who stopped responding on the other thread. You were going to check the wiring on the MAF. You have already tested and ruled out several things. Your last post indicated it only displays the problems when the MAF sensor is connected. When you disconnect it, the engine starts and runs fine. Seems like you've narrowed it down. Have you taken the time to inspect the inlet bellows for tears, or being folded under at the bottom of the throttle body?
The old post for people who don't want to waste their time posting suggestions that you have already evaluated:

I think that may be the problem guys. I ran the car in sd mode with the MAF off this morning and the car did not miss. And then I pluged it in and started the car and it was missing bad. Also last night i checked the MAF 12V ref signal and it was at 12.13 when the engine was warm. so for some reason the signal is weaker when cold. When i get back from school im going to splice the wire with another 12v wire and see if that works.
