MAF is dead. What replacment should i use

like the topic says, ran threw a giant puddle thought i hydrolocked the engine, nope cleaned the pistons and valves though with the amount of h20 i sucked in, but it killed my maf... i know because i ran to work and barrowed a new one hooked it up it started ran fine, if i hook the "dead" one up it will sumble run rich and idle like poop.... this all started after i sucked up the water, like i said with new maf runs perfect old maf bad. so which should i replace it with??? im not really in the mood to spend 300 on a new one though. so whats my options, i will be getting dyno tuning done very soon due to cam swap

if you are planning on getting the car tuned, i would go with the stock MAF...do a search, and you will find a ton of posts on the issue.

The aftermarket ones are all questionable...

There are 2 options that are known to work without any issues (Well, 1 has some fitment issues depending on the application)

#1 - Stocker,

#2 - GM Z06 MAF, not the one sold by LS1 speed, nor any-other aftermarket company, the one you buy from a GM dealership. The catch is you need to buy a pigtail adapter from Ramchargers, and have your PCM re-programmed for the new MAF. I've run this setup for almost 3 years now, it works great. If you can program the PCM yourself, I've posted the MAF table modified for the LT1 PCM.

How did you mess your MAF up Formula305fi? I messed mine up when I got stuck in a flash flood and ended up running through water 9-12 inches deep. I was babying the car though the water... I had no choice really... Then all of a sudden the car shudderd and went off... pulled out my "O-****" reserve bag of tools and pulled the intake off. I had a pool of water hanging around in the K&N... and water droplets leading all the way up the intake to the throttle body. I opened the butterflies on the TB and felt around inside... I didn't get and moisture on my hand so I was lucky... the water shorted out the MAF unit and killed the engine before the water got its way into the motor... lucky... but time for a new MAF

Jesus!!!! Same exact thing freakin puddle that came right up to the bottom of the door, babying it threw talking to my friend bout how he hydrolocked his engine, and then puff. mine stalled and sounded like it just sucked up water and locked, i said holy **** no! sat there for a min thinking what to do, and my friend said dont start it , it will make it worse if i locked it, well i started it, and it took a bit, i had to start like a carb car, foot on gas and turn, it took a min but it turned over, i flew out of the puddle and drove it hard just to make sure that any water on the pistons would be burned off. so all in all its fine, just the maf suffered major water damage
