Machining costs
Heads and intake around 550-700 labor...plus around 200-500 in parts(bolt on) (intake/exhaust valves, etc.) All depends on the quality you want. I have been quoted around 1000 for bolt on heads. I am not sure on the cylinder holes?
I was thinking I can get all three jobs machined for 1k$..... would it be done at the same machine shop? And how can I finf my local machine shop, I live in san jose

If you mean boring the cylinders by "port the cylinder holes" and increasing the stroke, that's gonna cost some $. Hella lot more the $1k including parts. You will have to have new pistons, crank, and probably rods. Just getting good ported heads will cost close to, if not more than $1k.

yeah, you can probably get it done for around 1grand...but that is only half the battle. That is where I'm at now. There's just so much more stuff I need to complete the job. But I would say 1grand give or take a couple hundred is about it. I think it will also depend on the flow you wish to achieve. With these cars money (a lot of it) buys speed!!

You would probably need to take the parts to the machine shop and see how much they would charge to do machining AND ASSEMBLE. Some kits require balancing, clearancing, etc. You might need other parts that your kit did not come with ( bearings, rings, file fitting rings, oil pump, 383 oil pan and pick up, etc, etc,
Unless the shop has done a few LT1 383's he might not know an EXACT total but rest asure that there will be some extra or hidden costs that you do not klnow of yet. If you are building a 383 and want to get it done for XXXX amount of mooney I would suggest getting the bottom end COMPLETELY assembled from timimg cover to oil pan AND THEN see how much is left to spend on heads. Other wise you could spend all of the alloted money and have an incomplete shortblock or have to wait a lil longer before finishing and save more $$.
