Mac Headers with just y-pipe
Mac Headers with just y-pipe
Right now i don't have any extra money to spend so i can't buy a cat. So i'm wondering if it's alright if i run my mac's with just the y-pipe attached? Will i have any problems with it like this? Also will it hang there alright or will it be bouncing everywhere?
One more thing can i like plug up the o2 sensor holes the first few times i fire it up to let it heat cycle and to burn off the smoke because i don't have the money right now to replace any o2's either.

Re: Mac Headers with just y-pipe
If you cant even afford new o2 sensors I would say hold off. There is so much **** that could go wrong with a header install. You dont want to get stuck along the way and have no money to finish the job and get your car running again.
Re: Mac Headers with just y-pipe
Well i already have everything pulled off my car and i didn't have anything break so hopefully nothing else will go wrong. And i'm going to be using the stock 02 sensor's it's just i don't want to ruin them while the headers smoke. So i was wondering if i could plug the holes or something

Re: Mac Headers with just y-pipe
Yeah, you can run open headers, but it will be LOUD LOUD LOUD LOUD! The MAC Y-pipe will not bolt right up to the stock cat. I have a post with details of how to make a high flow cat for about $85 that bolts between the stock catback and the MAC y-pipe. Just search on "make your own high flow cat"
You can run without the front O2's hooked up, but it could run pig rich since it won't go to closed loop. My front O2's crapped out after my MAC install, and I kept them in for 500 miles to make sure that any coatings were burned off. The new O2's have been great since.

I agree on the LOUD LOUD LOUD part! I had to drive that way to the muffler shop to get some welding done and it was like a full body massage with the vibrations. It did sound like total crap running open Y, not to mention you have to be careful about cops. I would only run that way for as short as possible...
