Question MAC header question

My rear header bolt uses a stud instead of a header bolt. I need to know if the MAC shorty headers offer enough room in the rear passenger side to allow a nut to be used instead of a header bolt.

Anyone know?

Re: MAC header question

JBA Shorties for a '93. Not enough room in the rear to get that nut on and using a regular header bolt isn't an option. It's a long story.

Re: MAC header question

There would be enough room on mine, yes.

Are you saying that you have a male to male stud in your head, and that the header flange would slide over the stud and get tightened with a nut? If that is what you are saying, then yes there is enough room.

Re: MAC header question

Yes, that's exactly what I am saying. Thank you.

Can anyone else confirm this?

Re: MAC header question

Quick questions, are the MAC shorties for the '93 Carb legal for California?

Re: MAC header question

They don't come with a CARB# if that answers your question.

Re: MAC header question

Technically, for any exhaust system modification to be CARB legal
the catalytic(s) and their location can not be altered in any way.
At least that is what I was told when I called an engineer at the
SCAQMD. Although I have stock exhaust manifolds and dual cats
in my 97, it's not legal. I will find out next year when I have to smog
the car.

Re: MAC header question

I know for a fact (unless it’s changed in the last year) that the CAT must remain in the stock location. Unless you have a buddy that works at a smog shop it’s unlikely you’ll pass the visual unless the smog tech simply doesn’t care.

But are you saying that the MAC headers and y-pipe require the CAT location to be moved?

Oh, and i was thinking of simply popping the JBA header CARB plate off and welding it to the MAC headers. Anyone ever done this?

The don't move the cat from the stock location on our 93's. Bad idea with the CARB plate though, because if you get caught, that could be some hefty fines.
