Is it neccessary to jack up the motor for a MAC install? How hard/is it possible to do an install from the top?

Also, I lost my bookmarks. Someone mentioned the MAC install guide at Jordan Mussers site. Is it still fastblackcamaro.com?

I didn't have to jack up my motor at all.

I did it from the top and bottom. You have to put the passenger side in from the bottom. No if's ands or buts. The driver side, well I did that with a little help. Someone was under the car and I was on the topside. I decided to do the passenger side first since that was the hard side, and then the driver side went in like cake.

No, you don't have to jack the motor up to do MAC headers. They both go in from the bottom without alot of hassle. Alot of people have problems with their engine oil dipsticks, but mine came right out and went right back in without any problems.

Yes, MAC headers are a mid length header...shorter than longtubes, longer than short tubes...LOL. LT's make more torque, shorties make more HP. So, MACs are the best header for a mildly modified F-body. Everybody, and their brother told me I wouldn't run quick unless I had LT's. I'm not too sure 12.0 @ 112 MPH is all that slow...LOL

I did mine at the same time I did my head/cam swap. Actual header install took less than 1.5 hours...With hand tools. The biggest nightmare will be if you have any broken bolts in the heads. Both of my rear most bolts were broke, but I planned on pulling the heads anyway, so it wasn't a big deal. I'd hate to have to drill and heli-coil the holes in the car.

So I take it that MACs have a better performance gain than shorties. Mids are legal right?

If that's the case..will a set of MAC's fit up to my stock Y-pipe or does it come with one? And does the y-pipe have Cats? I want headers that will fit up to my stock Y-pipe w/cats so I can pass visual inspection at smog. If it comes with a y-pipe with no cats, thats cool! But I would still need the headers to bolt onto my Y-pipe for inspections....

I have a 96 Z28...

Thanks!
Yes, MAC headers are emissions legal. As a matter of fact, I've still got all my emissions stuff hooked up on the engine. MAC headers come with a y-pipe. I have 2 pipes that bolt to my y-pipe that have flanges on each end...One has an off-road pipe with a cut-out, and one has a catyletic converter. I can make mine completely emissions legal in about 15-20 minutes time...but...mine is a single cat. '93.

As far as performance? 12.0 isn't slow...LOL MAC headers make more top end HP than LT's.

For the MACs, I didn't remove the dipstick, just unbolted it and flexed it a little just to fit the header in there.
