Mac header install/ steering knuckle removal ?
Mac header install/ steering knuckle removal ?
I have a 1993 Firehawk M6. I bought a set of used Mac headers with no instuctions. I have the passenger side installed (easy). Not so easy on the drivers side. Do I need to remove the steering knuckle to get these in? I figured that you would not becuase of the slip fit primary tube. The headers are for the 93 specific. Anyways any help would be great.
Re: Mac header install/ steering knuckle removal ?
Make sure you don't turn the steering wheel more that a turn or so each way with the steering shaft removed. You'll break the airbag clock spring harness.
Re: Mac header install/ steering knuckle removal ?
I can't figure out why that had to be disconnected to put in the MACs. I did my Mac system several times and nothing had to come out, those were the easiest of any header I've installed. The BBK's were much tighter. Perhaps all cars aren't the same.
Re: Mac header install/ steering knuckle removal ?
I got the headers done and the power is very noticeble. I did have to take out the steering shaft. They might have fit from the bottom if i would have removed the oil cooler housing which is under the oil filter. Did not want to mess with that at all. The steering shaft was only 2 bolts. Overall very easy install. The hardest part was taking off the exhaust manifolds. The last 2 bolts on the passeneger side in the back were a pain.

The knuckle is what is between your ball joints and has the tie rod attached to it.
