MAC Header Install...problems

All,

Well, I finally got that rear bolt of the pass. side manifold. I was moving along well, and then hit a wall on the driver's side header. I can't for the life of me get it in from the bottom. Is there any special angle? Do I have to remove the oil filter?

Thanks

Remove the filter AND the oil cooler unit from the block. You'll also need to take the oil pressure sending unit out.

My macs slid right in from the bottom. Do you have the #1 tube disconnected? I also took my steering shaft apart. When i had slp headers, i had to jack the engine which was a PITA.

I just had to remove the oil filter. Nothing else was disconnected.

Your motor mounts must be old/weak. I only had to remove the rear 2 spark plugs, nothing else. Remember to put tape on the parts of the header that can rub on stuff when it's getting installed. This will help the finish.

You should not have the #1 primary on yet, and removing the oil filter and the rear two plugs should do it. Try different angles. Mine went in very easily on the drivers side.

Good luck.

The hardest part I thought was the #1 primary. Make sure that the drivers side header is NOT bolted down tight when you try to wiggle the #1 primary slip tube on there. Also, make sure you don't forget to put the band clamp on there before you start to put the #1 primary on. Put a good amount of ultra copper RTV on the slip tube to help it slide on.

As long as the #1 slip tube is out of it and the spark plugs are out it should be so easy it is funny. I had a hard time keeping mine IN!!! I was working bymy self so I would be under the car getting it in then when I thought it waould stay I would crawl out and go start a bolt the BANG it slid right out. It is rediculously easy to get the drivers side in with the spark plugs out. I don't know about oil cooler equipment as I didn't have any of that to deal with.

Remember....Some of you have '94-up Cars. Our oil pressure sending unit is down near the oil filter...Not in the top/back of the block. You HAVE to take the sending unit out.

I have a '95 and the Oil pressure sender is in the back of the block by the intake.
