Question M6 Swap?

Is it possible to switch a T56 6 speed with an SS M6 6speed ?

Would this even be worth the trouble or is a T56 just as good just designed for my car ?

I am confused by your question. The T-56 is the same in an SS as in a Z28. Depending on the year the internal gears are different. There is no reason to swap trannies out.

Ok then i was kinda confused about the two, i searched up on the topic but didnt find what i was looking for. What exactly is the difference between a M6 and a T56, also since were on the topic of gears, i have heard many diff things about stock differential gear ratios, does a 95 T/A have the same gear ratio as a 2nd Gen 95 z28 (2nd gens had ACR (traction contro))?

Hey bud, let me help you out. M6=T56
M6 = Manual 6 speed transmission
T56 = BorgWarner
The 93's have 3.23's in the rear and different internal transmission gearing than the 94's and up, which have a 3.42 in the rear.
95 T/A and Z should have the same gearing.
I read once why GM did the change, and it made sense, but can't recall what it was. Maybe someone here knows.
Also unless you are putting down obscene amounts of power, the BorgWarner is more than adequate. I read that they underrate their HP ratings. Basically the tranny can handle I think 350HP. They figured that out by running 350 HP through their tranny for 24 straight hours. So unless you are going WOT for a day....
Again maybe someone can enlighten us further on this topic.

Like neversummer said, an M6 car is just a designation to indicate that it's a manual tranny car. If you have an automatic car, you'd say it's an A4 (a 4L60E automatic tranny). Like, I have a '96 Z28, A4. Note, this just applies to camaro's.

There are subtle differences between T56's made over the years (like internal gear ratios), and the LS1 versions have different bellhousings and input shafts along with some other junk I won't get into, so you can't interchange an LS1 T56 with an LT1 engine and vice-versa. A search on the board should show up some more info on that.

Well the T56 can handle WAY more power than 350 HP. There are tons of guys with excess of 600 HP running an M6 with problems...
