Exclamation M6 guys, my reverse lockout doesn't work!

Hey guys, just recently my reverse lockout on my M6 has not been working properly. It doesn't happen all the time, but sometimes it doesn't lockout reverse and I'm able to shift into reverse when I'm trying to shift from 4th to 5th. Any ideas as to what's wrong and what might need to be replaced? Any help or suggestions would greatly be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Have you ever had any pcm tuning done? The solenoid is always locked when it doesnt have power, so thats what i would assume is wrong.

Thanks for the reply Rodrigues. I've never had any PCM tuning done on my car. The car only has the mods listed in my sig. Can you please explain the solenoid thing in some more detail? Is the solenoid the part that might need to be replaced? Thanks again.

Well, it's possible that the soleniod itself went out, but here's another thought. When my 99 T/A blew out the 5th gear synchros, this took the reverse lockout with it. If 5th is acting up on you, that's another possibility. Hopefully, it's just the solenoid though.

Since the problem with my lockout only happens once in a while, I have heard that it may actually be a mechanical problem instead of an electrical problem. Can anyone shed some light on this? I did a search on this topic and some members have said that you can take apart something and clean it out? I really need some help on this, because it's damn scary to know that I could accidently throw the car into reverse while I'm going 70mph. BTW, all my other gears are working just fine. Thanks again guys.

Well, if all your gears are fine, then it's most likely either a mechanical problem (bad solenoid). If it was a loose electrical connection, the solenoid would lock out reverse. It's set to lockout when there's no power to it. So, your best bet would be to start by taking the solenoid off and checking it. Do a search, there's a way to check and see if it's working or not.

I don't think it is possible that you can switch into reverse while moving. I used to disconnect my speedo to get rid of the limiter and on a 4-5 shift i would sometimes hit reverse but it will just grind like crazy. the tranny shouldn't actually let you shift into it because it is moving so fast.
